The godfather of AI resigns with a note that says AI is too dangerous

Geoffrey Hinton who is known as the godfather of Artificial Intelligence (AI) stated that he regrets his work and resigned from Google. Here is the wiki if you don’t know. The question is, what did he see in works at Google that after dedicating his whole life to AI he fears the consequences? That is definitely causing suspicion and fear that something is coming that can destroy humanity either slow or at a snap. That is the question that is sitting at labs of companies like Google and Microsoft.

I live and breath technology and AI is slowly becoming essential to my day to day work and that of my clients. We all talk about how amazing it is that a machine can understand our prompts so easily and create things beyond imagination. AI can make things of its own and train other AI to mimic things. The day is near that AI and ML will replace so many of our jobs and will actually control humanity. This might sound a little ‘filmy’ but wasn’t it all before the technological revolution when computers and internet became food and water?

Humans will instruct machines to run countries, protect humans, do house hold chores, make humans follow laws (and make new laws?), decide whether to kill someone or let them live based on the kind of crime it thinks they did.

On the other hand, it was obvious humans were going to reach this level of intelligence, isn’t it? We get bored with the same technology. We want to grow and advance in every way possible. Next 10 years “must” be more advanced than the past 10 years.

The question is, will it take us to dystopian or utopian era. Whatever it may be, I’m excited. I want AI to grow and ML to learn as fast as possible so I get to see that huge change before I die. I always wonder, why isn’t there T100 from terminator in reality? This was imagined in 1984 and after watching Terminator 2, I’m sure everyone wanted one.
